Dean, Institute of Oceanography and Environmental Sciences
Dr. Sheriffa Andas finished her doctorate degree in Biology with specialization in Systematics and minor in Ecology from Central Mindanao University in Musuan, Bukidnon as recipient of CHED-Faculty Development Program-II and; Master of Science in Education at the Western Mindanao State University in Zamboanga City.
Before becoming the Dean of IOES, Dr. Andas has served as a high school teacher at the MSU-TCTO Science High School since 1988 and has held various positions as Special Assistant to the Office of the Director for Science High School (June 1999 - August 2009) and eventually as Director for Science High School (September 2009 - May 2011). She is best remembered by the students as the author-compiler of the MSU-TCTO High School Student Handbook.
Active in research and extension activities, Dean Andas has led a CHED-funded project entitled Inventory of vascular plants in Sibutu, Tumindao, Sipangkot, Umapoy Islands in Tawi-Tawi and presented the study, along with her dissertation Diversity of trees and pteridophytes in Pasonanca Natural Park, Zamboanga City in an international conference for environment and biodiversity.
During her stewardship as Science High School Director, the school became a recipient of the GEM-EASE and was provided with a total of P200,000 worth of science laboratory equipment and computer units. With her leadership work, the Science High School earned an award for Best Practice in Technology in ARMM in 2009 with a cash incentive. The Department of Trade and Industry also supported her reforms in the Science High School, together with her predecessor Ibnihajul Burahim, by the grant of computer units for the use of the students.
